tmt31: Audio Description as a Personal Listening Experience

Presentation at the Tonmeistertagung 2021 (tmt31)

On 6 November, VIDEO TO VOICE gave a presentation at the Tonmeistertagung 2021 (tmt31) in Düsseldorf. It was the 31st edition of a four-day event that brought together audio industry professionals from around the globe. Producers, developers, scientists, manufacturers, and suppliers exchanged on current trends in product development, research, and application practice.

VIDEO TO VOICE's CEO Lukas Pajonczek gave a presentation on producing alternative versions of audio for television, web, and cinema. The main focus was on audio description as a personal listening experience for the blind and visually impaired.

For a better understanding of the practice, attendees were shown a number of video examples with and without audio description. This included a quick run-through of how to produce an audio description. The presentation concluded with an introduction to various playout options, including the latest possibilities with object-based audio.

Familiar faces at the Tonmeistertagung 2021

The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) also had various stations set up at the Tonmeistertagung 2021. Visitors were able to experience immersive sound in a living room environment and learn how 3D audio is created for live and post-production settings with the institute's tools. For some time, VIDEO TO VOICE has been working in close partnership with the Fraunhofer IIS on topics such as automated mixing, Dialog+, and MPEG-H Audio

VIDEO TO VOICE enjoyed attending the conference, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic had made face-to-face events of this kind unfeasible for such a long time.
